Using Emotional Intelligence (EI) in a team leader or first-line manager environment
Stage Three: Team Leader Skills Development Programme – Experiential Learning
The main catalyst of the event will be a progressive series of projects that are sophisticated, consequential, enjoyable, memorable and highly effective. The projects set will be participative and experiential. They are designed to challenge and develop the team leaders around their behavioural functioning, as well as the specific programme. The essence of the projects is for the team leaders to make choices regarding how best to implement the use of the four key resources of: materials, information, people skills and time. In this respect, the projects reflect the issues of the workplace.
While some of the projects themselves may not appear to have any direct relevance to work, it will become obvious that the same attitudes, approaches and behaviour manifested also occur at work in similar situations. However, safely removed from the demands and pressures of work, this behaviour can then be facilitated and revised to generate learning at an individual and team leader level.
Outline of objectives for the team leader development programme:
- Provide your team leaders with the right balance of both practical hands-on experience and the theory to back it up
- Ensure that there is opportunity to not only learn, but also practise and develop new team leading skills in an encouraging and supportive environment
- Provide varying situations to manage change and improve flexibility within your team leaders
- Allow your team leaders to enjoy themselves and return into the workplace motivated and with clear actions
- Develop trust, confidence and a sense of support between team leaders as the peer group team
- Establish an atmosphere that naturally promotes the giving and receiving of feedback with the team leaders
- Develop an attitude of accountability and responsibility rather than passing 'the buck'
